3rd Annual Apex Jazz Festival Was A Huge Success! The 3rd Annual Apex Jazz Festival attracted over 10,000 people to Downtown Apex on September 21, 2013, despite the rainy weather. Headliners Captain Luke and Cool John Ferguson rocked the Main Stage / Beer & Wine Garden with Captain Luke’s low bass vocals and Cool John’s bluesy guitar. Opening acts The Soul Psychadelique Orchestra and E-Train & The Rusted Rails got the party started with hours of varied “not just jazz” R&B, rock, reggae, and blues. Peak City Sound wrapped up on the main stage from 9:30 to 11:00 and kept the crowd on its feet with a variety of old favorites ranging from Motown to Margaritaville.
Meanwhile, 11 other bands played at smaller venues at various pubs and businesses along Salem Street. The music played until 1:00 am at Salem Street Pub, with Mike MickXer providing a soulful abundance of great old R&B and reggae songs.
Over 100 volunteers came together to make it all happen, in addition to about a dozen people who serve on the Jazz Festival Committee throughout the year and manage the event planning and execution. The Committee wants to thank all of our awesome volunteers who helped make the event a total success and made everything run smoothly.
The Jazz Festival Committee and the Apex Downtown Business Association would also like to thank our many sponsors who contributed their time, resources, and money. The sponsors helped us create the performance areas and gathering places, pay the performers, and keep the food and drinks coming. We especially want to thank Long Beverage, Childress Vineyards, Triangle Wine Company, all of the food vendors, the Downtown Apex businesses hosting bands, and David Williams for providing some great photos of the event (see the slideshow above).
We would appreciate your comments on how we can iron out any kinks and make the Apex Jazz Festival even more fun and enjoyable. Please send us an email at email@example.com. We’re starting right now on planning the next 4th Annual Jazz Festival on September 20, 2014.
